Once again abuse, violence and torture of the elderly in the institution. It happens in the home for the elderly “Domus Mitreo” in Viale Vittorio Veneto, which ended up at the center of the investigation of the carabinieri of the Nucleo antisofisticazione e sanità di Roma (Nas) in Grottaferrata. It reads, in the opening of the Republic article of February 1, 2026: “Shut up you pisser.” They would insult the residents, beat them. They would tie them to wheelchairs and sedate them, administering drugs capable of making them sleep from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day.” Not an isolated case but the latest episode in a horrendous accounting of dozens of cases in 2025 alone. And, say well-informed sources, this is only the tip of the iceberg. I wonder and ask you, dear elderly friends: is reporting enough? Is the admittedly laudable action of the NAS and carabinieri enough? Or is it not time to finally curb the rampant exploitation of the elderly, the ’gray gold’ of our times? This site, and the Great Age Association was also born out of the realization that there is an urgent need for a movement of the elderly for the elderly, of revolt and affirmation of the rights of us old people and the duties of society. This is discussed on other pages of the website but I would like to strongly affirm a principle here: even the old express a weakness and frailty that must be defended by all. Let us not give in to a sense of irrelevance and worthlessness, let us defend our peers, let us defend those who live locked up in these facilities abusive, we defend the right of everyone to live and die in their own home. We will render a great service to all of society, to our children and grandchildren, so that they will not have to go through the same suffering and humiliation one day. Write, denounce, help, so that this horrendous violence against our fathers and grandfathers ends as soon as possible.
Il tema dell’iniziativa principale e i contenuti
Si è svolto lo scorso 15 aprile, presso la Camera dei Deputati, l’incontro promosso dalla Fondazione Età Grande dal titolo “Radici e futuro – l’alleanza tra generazioni per la rinascita delle aree interne”.
Un appuntamento che ha riunito rappresentanti delle istituzioni, esperti e operatori del sociale per affrontare un tema sempre più attuale: il rapporto tra giovani e anziani e il futuro dei territori più fragili del Paese.
Nel corso dell’incontro si sono alternati interventi dal tavolo dei relatori e momenti di riflessione condivisa, con particolare attenzione al ruolo delle generazioni nella costruzione di nuove prospettive di sviluppo.
Al centro del dibattito, la necessità di rafforzare il legame tra giovani e anziani, riconoscendo in questi ultimi non solo una componente da tutelare, ma una risorsa attiva per la società. Un passaggio più volte sottolineato durante gli interventi, in cui è emersa l’importanza della memoria, dell’esperienza e del contributo sociale delle persone anziane.
Ampio spazio è stato dedicato anche al tema delle aree interne, spesso segnate da spopolamento e isolamento. In questo contesto, è stata evidenziata la necessità di politiche capaci di rilanciare i territori, valorizzando le comunità locali e promuovendo nuove forme di collaborazione tra istituzioni e cittadini.
Tra i messaggi emersi nel corso dell’incontro, quello della responsabilità condivisa: costruire il futuro richiede il contributo di tutte le generazioni. È proprio nella relazione tra giovani e anziani, infatti, che può nascere un modello di sviluppo più equilibrato e sostenibile.
L’iniziativa si è conclusa con un confronto partecipato e con la consapevolezza che il tema dell’alleanza tra generazioni rappresenta una sfida centrale per il Paese.
Un momento di dialogo che non si esaurisce nell’incontro, ma che punta a tradursi in azioni concrete per il rilancio dei territori e il rafforzamento del tessuto sociale.
